Holy Basil Extract Introduction
Holy basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum) is an aromatic shrub in the Lamiaceae basil plant family. It’s thought to have originated in north central India and now grows throughout the Eastern world. Extracts, oils and supplements can also be made from holy basil seeds, leaves, flowers and stems.
Holy basil extract is widely used in food preparation and is reported to have a variety of biologically beneficial activities, so it has the potential to treat various health conditions. It has been widely grown throughout the world and commonly cultivated in gardens. Traditionally holy basil extract is used in malarial fevers, gastric disorders and in hepatic infections.
