Alfalfa extract is a good forage plant and a green manure. Seeds contain about 10% oil. Alfalfa extracted from leaf has traditionally been used as a nutritive tonic to stimulate the appetite and promote weight gain. Alfalfa extract has estrogenic effects and contains total saponins, flavonoids, isoflavones and coumarins, which are useful for treating menstrual and menopausal related problems.
