Recently, the price of traditional Chinese medicine has risen significantly, and the price increase of individual varieties has even reached 200% to 300%.

The lotus pond Chinese medicinal material market in Chengdu, Sichuan is one of the 17 national large-scale Chinese medicinal material markets. The reporter walked into the market early in the morning and saw that there were many kinds of medicinal materials. Citizens who came to purchase found that the market was somewhat abnormal recently. Many businesses have closed their doors early, and the prices of medicinal materials have risen drastically.

It is understood that nearly 80% of Chinese medicinal materials on the market have varying degrees of price increase

Merchant Wu Zhangjian: “Lily may have risen by more than ten yuan per kilogram, and ginseng has risen by one hundred yuan per kilogram. It used to sell for more than 300 yuan, and now it sells for more than 400 yuan. The price started to increase when new products were produced.”

Merchant Li Shoukun: “Eclipta prostrata and Rehmannia glutinosa rose most recently. Eclipta prostrata has increased from 6yuan per kilogram to 16 or 17 yuan per kilogram now, which is almost three times the increase. The purchase price of Rehmanniae in June was 22 or 23 yuan per kilogram, and today the market price has reached 50 yuan per kilogram.”

Li Shoukun said that the prices of some Chinese medicinal materials have reached historical highs. They can only buy on-demand according to the demand. They dare not buy in large quantities. The shops that were going to be hot until 4 pm will now close at 12 noon.

Merchant Li Jie: “The current business is definitely not as good as before. Everyone can see the increase in medicinal materials. The increase of 300% to 400% is commonplace. Customers will hesitate to take any medicinal material, and orders will decrease.”

The staff of China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine showed reporters the results of big data analysis and explained the reasons for the recent price increase.

Chen Qing, Manager of the Information Center of Chinese Medicine World Net states: “Chinese medicine has played a very good role in fighting the epidemic, and it has a supporting and propaganda effect on the consumption of Chinese medicine. In the past few years, the price of Chinese medicinal materials was relatively poor, and many farmers in the production areas have reduced their varieties. For example, because of the decrease in planting, the price of rehmannia glutinosa has increased very sharply. Another reason is that the Henan production area was affected by the rain disaster in the early stage, and Shanxi production area has recently been hit by disasters as well. As a result, the overall price of Chinese medicinal materials has risen.”
